December is for Texas 32

IT’S FRIDAY COFFEE TIME!

All the “deets” are here (that’s what the cool kids say, I hear) but before we get to the good stuff, a little venting.

Can you believe (of course you can, but still…) Morgan Meyer voted for Greg Abbott’s school voucher program to the bitter end? The man who says he represents educational interests and the public schools?

This is very important information to share with your neighbors who think he’s moderate.  He’s not. Here’s a recap of the events.  It lists the 21 Rs who know that school vouchers hurt poor children, rural and urban, as well as public schools.  They voted their consciences.  Morgan Meyer isn’t one of them.  Remember, Elizabeth Ginsberg and Yasmin Simon are running to replace him.

Okay, now that I have that off my chest, on to the good stuff.  The 411, as the slightly less cool kids say.  Remember how fun it was to flip Texas 32?  Six years ago, we helped Colin Allred to his first win in Congress, and he’s such a strong candidate that when the R’s redistricted in 2022, they couldn’t touch him.  Of course, that’s also why he’s running for Senate now.  (You didn’t forget he’s running for Senate did you? I bet you’re getting some texts from him.  Or maybe, 20 a day.  Throw him a bone (or a donation) once in a while — it’s a worthy cause even if, like me, you have to put his campaign texts on mute. Pretty soon we’ll be able to block walk and phone bank for him.)

So, we still care about our neighbors in 32, even if most of us have been sent over to 24 now—where we WILL help defeat Beth Van Duyne.

That’s why we’re meeting candidates for Texas 32 this month.  All three are joining us. Some or all of these names may be familiar to you, but this is a new race and a new setting. TX 32 still matters A LOT, so be there!

We’re meeting on Friday, December 8, 9:30 AM. Check your email for the address (make sure you check your junk mail folder too). If you’re not on our email list, write membership@pcdwa.org.

And just ‘cause it’s always worth saying.  Men are welcome, your like-minded friends are welcome, and your fed up Republicans are welcome.  We know we don’t bite, but they might like to see proof of that in person.
